Another Bedtime Story

I have a very creative and imaginative son. He frequently will hold a cracker or fruit snack and tell me that it is a dump truck, monster truck, digger, etc and proceed to drive it around and make great sound effects. I really want to foster his imagination and help him to live his life from the inside out instead of the outside in - live outside the box/mold our society places on us.

So, tonight Eli wanted to read last year's calendar that I haven't gotten around to disposing of yet tas a bedtime story. There are some quite beautiful pictures of mountains, lakes, and rivers. As you all know, Eli is a HUGE fan of throwing rocks in water, so as we were "reading" the calendar Eli was pretending to throw rocks in the water.

He was really getting into it and he started inviting people to throw imaginary rocks with us as we pretended we were visiting the beautiful scenes in the calendar. Our conversation was peppered with things like:

eli: Wow, big river, huh. Throw rocks! Big one! SPLASH! Grandma throw rocks. Grandpa throw rocks. Fun, huh! Hi, Auntie!
me: Is Auntie going to throw rocks? Can you say, "Auntie throws like a girl?"
eli: Throw rocks, Auntie. Auntie throws like a girl. (giggling)

Anyway, we had a blast. Sorry Tricia - you throw like I do.

What a good story teller he is. Kyle loves to throw rocks too. They would have been best buds at the family reunion. That's all Kyle did it seemed like at the lake. Ask anyone:) I love the slide show too, especially Big brother kissing xander :) Too cute.

Sounds like Eli has his priorities straight. Throwing rocks in the water at the top of the list. Also, I will admit, Auntie does throw like a girl! Such a disappointment growing up...

I wonder what it was like back then when imagination ruled instead of the practicalities of life?

Ah, so sad. I throw like a girl. If only I had better aim. Oh well.
