Another First

This is not a first that we are rejoicing in - Xander has his first cold. Life definitely gets a bit more challenging when the people in your life under four feet tall get sick. Eli is still getting over a cold complete with snotty nose and not feeling well which he lovingly passed to his little brother.

I feel so bad for poor little Xander. He is just so miserable! His nose is all stuffy and runny and he can't breathe well, his eyes are red and watery, and his mean mommy keeps squirting this awful saline solution up his nose and then trying to suction his brains out through his nose. He has had a bit of a fever too. At least Eli is old enough so I can drug him up until the cold passes, but alas, poor Xander only gets Tylenol and saline, neither of which he is overly fond (okay, they rank right up with Chinese water torture).

So I have two uncomfortable little creatures that both want my absolute and UNDIVIDED attention and vociferously let me know if I am not meeting all of their needs. Some days I wish I were 2 again and all I had to do to get all of my needs catered to was to whine or throw a fit, have someone perpare all my food for me and clean up after me, read me stories and tuck me in for a nice nap. Sigh. Thank heavens for immune systems that can attack and destroy such pesky viral intruders!

In spite of being slightly ill, Xander is growing up before my very eyes!
  • He loves to play with toys now.
  • He can transfer things from one hand to another.
  • He loves to blow raspberries.
  • He loves to be tickled.
  • He still loves to be naked (and blows out his diapers at least once daily to achieve this).
  • He is getting so chunky! He still is not the monster that Eli was, but I bet that is probably because he likes to sleep more than eat while all Eli loved to do was eat but wasn't a big fan of sleeping.
  • He loves his big brother and so far hasn't held any grudges about the rough lovin's he receives from said brother.
  • He can roll onto his belly (he can't roll back yet, but he sure tries)
  • He loves fingers - eating, watching, etc.
  • He still loves the Moby and lots of snuggling.
  • He makes the cutest noise when he is about to sneeze and it dies in his nose before it makes it out.
  • He hates his medicine and makes the funniest faces when I give it to him. He looks so hurt, too, like I am trying to poison him.
  • He loves his daddy and lights up whenever he sees him complete with full body wiggles, grins, and giggles.
I know I've said this a gabillion times or more, but he really is just a sweet, mild mannered little guy. I feel so lucky to be his mommy.

Thanks for the update on Xander. It's so fun to hear about what your boys are doing.

Poor little guy! Colds are the worst, but especially for these little ones. I had to laugh at the diaper blowouts to achieve freedom because we have a 5 month old who feels the same way!!!
